The beginning of a new year is always an exciting time. Here are our top tips on how to best close out 2022, and how to create space for the newness that 2023 will bring!
1. Start with a clean space
There’s no better way to start the new year than with a fresh and clean home. It doesn’t need to be anything drastic, but amidst the celebrations and social catch ups, try to set aside an hour or two to tidy up your home and give it a once over.
2. Reflect on the last year
Take a moment to make a smoothie or an iced coffee, sit down and journal about the year that you’ve just had. What went super well? What wasn’t quite right? What would you like to bring into 2023, and what would you like to leave behind?

Take a moment to make a smoothie or an iced coffee, sit down and journal about the year that you’ve just had. What went super well? What wasn’t quite right? What would you like to bring into 2023, and what would you like to leave behind?
3. Visualise
Close your eyes and envision for yourself how you’d like to be feeling in one years’ time. What have you achieved? What are your habits? Where are you? What does your daily life look like? Take some time to get excited and build up expectations for what this next year will yield.
4. Vision board
This is when we bring our vision to life. Find photos and quotes on pinterest and in magazines and create a vision for your next year that feels exciting and personal. Whether you do this digitally or with scissors and glue; this is a space for creating something that is totally yours!
5. Set goals and intentions
Put pen to paper again and work out some goals and intentions for the new year. Again, there is no need to try and talk yourself into doing anything drastic. Focus on actionable steps that are in alignment with your vision.
6. Take a step!
Now that you’ve gotten clear about what you want for this next year, take action today. Whether it’s something big or small, you’ll feel amazing for getting the momentum going and taking the first step towards your goal. And after the first step, take another and another!
This practice is not designed to force you to stick rigidly to your goals - it’s rather just about getting you moving towards them. Once you’re in motion, if your priorities change or new doors open up to you, you’ll be more ready to step towards them because you’ll already be looking forwards and moving. All you need to do is focus on the next right thing.
We are so excited to see what 2023 brings - and we’d love to know what you’re working towards and dreaming about. Tag us in your vision boards and let us know your goals: we’re believing that 2023 is the best year yet!
Spring has finally sprung; the days are warming up and the mornings are getting lighter! We absolutely love this time of year: it’s exciting and invigorating. It’s also the perfect time of year to head down to the beach, before the summer breeze begins to pick up.

]]>If you’re heading to the beach, remember to bring your wetsuit, as the water temperature hasn’t begun to climb yet! If you don’t have one yet: our wetsuits are the perfect weight for spring, as they are made from 2mm Superlite neoprene that will keep your body, chest and arms warm, without causing you to overheat!

We love this incredible world that we live in, and cherish the magical experiences that it affords us. Our Products
We purchase controlled and measured product amounts to ensure that our products do not contribute to landfill. We choose to be conservative when investing into our products, to ensure that we keep our inventory management from contributing to landfill.
Our wetsuits are made from 2mm Superlite neoprene that is not derived from petroleum, unlike most other wetsuits in the market. In addition to this, our neoprene is 20% lighter compared to standard neoprene which helps us to reduce the carbon footprint required for the transportation of our products. Furthermore, we have chosen to utilise an aqua-based laminate glue which is both eco-friendly and solvent free.
Our Packaging
Not only do we do our best to ensure we are designing sustainable products, but we work with our partners to ensure that our packaging strategy helps to minimise the waste produced.
The hang tags attached to each garment are easily recyclable and we choose to ship our products in biodegradable mailing bags to reduce our consumption of single-use plastic.
Our Future
Each day we work to improve and build upon the sustainability foundations we have laid here at GRNSTR.
There are many ways that both businesses and individuals can evolve to become more sustainable. If you have any suggestions, feedback or comments in regards to sustainability for us here at GRNSTR, please contact us here. We are always striving to learn and grow, and would love to hear your thoughts.
Together, we can create a better and more sustainable community, industry and world. Here is to learning, growing, and making a difference in 2022!
]]>Spring is here but the mornings are still fresh and it can be easy to just roll over and press the snooze button in the mornings. Here are my top tips on how you can make the most of each day; starting with optimising your morning routine.
1. Adhere to a Bedtime
Your best tomorrow starts tonight; with a good night’s sleep. Put your phone away before you head to bed in order to reduce the amount of blue-light you’re exposed to before sleep. Take some time to enjoy the practice of getting ready for bed; for me, that’s a warm shower and my skincare routine, and a pair of cute pyjamas.

Take some time to enjoy the practice of getting ready for bed; for me, that’s a warm shower and my skincare routine, and a pair of cute pyjamas.
2. Set an Alarm
You don’t need to be waking up ridiculously early (in fact; 7-8 hours of sleep is ideal!) but giving yourself ample time in the morning allows you time to rest, reset and prepare for the day ahead. Once you’ve had a read through of the rest of these steps, you can estimate how much time you’ll need in the morning and then use this to determine when you should wake up. From there, you can count back and make sure that your bedtime is allowing you sufficient rest.
3. Exercise
Whether it’s a brisk walk around the park with your dog, or a 15 minute stretch online (this is my favourite), or a full-blown gym session, getting in some movement is a fool-proof way to start the day. The increased blood flow will help to wake you up, and ticking this off your daily to-do list will help you to feel good and productive from the get-go!
4. Your Outfit
Laying out your favourite activewear pieces the night before will help you to stay accountable and will make it easier to get out of bed. Choose pieces that you like wearing and which look good together, so that you can feel confident while you’re working out. This will also help you to feel stylish and put-together for the next few steps!
5. Coffee & Goals
Treat yourself to your favourite warm drink and breakfast, make a point of sitting down to enjoy it. While you’re here, instead of scrolling on your phone, take some time to think about the day ahead and jot down some of the key tasks you’d like to achieve today.
6. Practice Gratitude
Each new morning is a blessing and a fresh opportunity! Take a moment to reflect on how far you’ve come and what you have achieved. If you enjoy journaling, it is a lovely way to clear your mind and set your intention for the day.
What does your morning routine look like? If you have any tips, we’d love you to let us know so we can add to our list!
]]>The world is opening up, plane tickets are being booked, and bags are being packed! If you’re off on a sunny and warm adventure soon, we have collated a checklist of the ultimate items that should be in your bag.
1. Sunscreen
I mean, it goes without saying! We are all learning more and more about the anti-aging benefits of wearing sunscreen and the importance of sun protection, and so of course bringing a good SPF is at the top of our list.
My absolute favourite SPF (and foundation) is the Ella Bache Great Sunguard SPF40 Foundation. I’ve been using it for fourteen years, and swear by it! Apply it as is, after your skincare routine, or mix it with untinted sunscreen to moderate the coverage. Use my code ELIZA for 10% off at Ella Bache Joondalup in Perth.

2. Cute Bikini
This one also goes without saying. In fact, they pack up so small that I bet you could easily fit more than one pair! The Desert Tigress Bikini Top and Bikini Bottoms offer the ultimate tanning fit; coverage where you need it and adjustability where you want it.
3. Cute One Piece
Perfect for the days where you start out at the beach and end up at drinks and dinner, a cute one piece swimsuit can be worn with shorts or a skirt for a comfortable and easy outfit option. The Feline Fierce One Piece is a great flirty and feminine piece that will have you feeling confident and sexy; whether you’re catching a wave or dancing the night away!
4. Aloe Vera
Hopefully you have been diligent with item number one, and this addition to your bag is superfluous. But our winter-skin can sometimes take some time to adjust to the sun when on vacation, so a back-up tube of aloe vera is always a wise choice.
5. Hydration Station
And I don’t just mean a water bottle (although you should bring a reusable one of those, too!)
It’s critical that you keep your skin super hydrated, both while you’re enjoying your holiday and when you’re flying to-and-from. This Hydrating Mist is the perfect mid-flight moisture top-up, and a great first-step of a nourishing skincare routine. This Serum is my favourite for smoothing skin and keeping blemishes at bay. And, bonus: they’re both under 100mL so you can pack them in your carry-on, and arrive at your vacay destination with dewy and happy skin.
6. Cute Hat & Sunglasses
The OG beach essentials; the easiest way to elevate your look, while also keeping your pretty face protected from the sun's rays! A wide brimmed hat is always a winner, but I’d recommend a fabric one instead of the quintessential straw hat for packability. As for sunnies, bringing a couple different pairs is an excellent (and light, and small) way to add versatility to your style while travelling.
What are your travelling essentials? We would love to know what else you would add to this list!

Swell Size
The size of the swell is often measured in metres and refers to the height of the wave. Generally, swell that is around the 1m mark is perfect for beginner surfers, while more experienced surfers can take on greater swell sizes (3m, and even more).
Swell Period
The period of the swell refers to the time between waves, and is measured in seconds. In general, a period of eight seconds or more yields the most satisfying and powerful swell, as there is sufficient time for each wave to build momentum. A swell period that is too short (for example, six seconds between waves) will lend itself to weak waves with little power.
Swell Direction
The direction of the swell lets you know from where the waves are coming. The shoreline of the beach you are wanting to visit will highly impact the waves you experience there.
If the shoreline of the beach is facing into the direction of the swell, it means that you will see mostly uninterrupted sets. If you are protected from the swell by a groyne or reef, you can know that the water will be far calmer in this bay, making it a more suitable candidate for swimming or snorkelling.
Wind Direction
The direction of the wind will really impact your experience down at the beach. Ideally, wind-free conditions are ideal, however days like these are often few and far between.
There are two main ways of classifying wind: off-shore winds (which blow in from the water) and on-shore winds (which blow in from the land).
Off-shore winds will be better for those wanting to surf, as this wind pushes the waves into the shore. On-shore winds are most enjoyable for those wanting to swim or snorkel, as these winds cause calmer conditions.
Wind Speed
The wind speed refers to the strength of the wind, and is measured in kilometres/hour. As a general rule, the lower the speed of the wind, the more enjoyable the ocean is. The early mornings are often the best time to head to the beach in order to catch it at its best!
Tides
Tides impact each beach differently, and so it’s important that you learn how the tides affect your local spots before heading out. High tides can submerge obstacles such as rocks and reefs which would be otherwise exposed at low tide.

Shortly after GRNSTR’s first magazine feature, (in British Vogue no less; read all about it here!) I was honoured to receive correspondence from one of the editors of the New York Times. She was proposing an editorial for their swim-piece guide, and wanted to feature the Desert Tigress Wetsuit. I could feel my heart begin to race as I read through the email.
Founded in 1851 (you read that right) The New York Times is an American newspaper based in New York City, with a worldwide readership. The New York Times has over 9.1 million subscribers and this world-renowned newspaper reaches a global audience daily.

Being featured on such a well-esteemed platform is a huge opportunity for GRNSTR, as it increases the exposure and reach of the brand. In addition to this, as it’s being introduced to a primarily American readership, this magazine feature will work to build the brand awareness of GRNSTR within North America. This propels us towards our goal for GRNSTR to become a globally recognised surf brand that is redefining the surfer girl/beach body image.
2022 sure has been an incredible year for me so far! I cannot wait to see what the future brings.
You can see GRNSTR featured in @nytimes here.
Thank you again to everyone who has come along for this journey in building and growing GRNSTR. We are making waves across the globe and I could not be more grateful for your support!

]]>My favourite spot to snorkel at Gnaraloo is inside the outer reef at the surf spot Migis, just south of the infamous surf spot Tombstones. Migis is well-protected from the waves and so it’s the perfect playground in which to snorkel. Migis is a super family-friendly spot that is perfect for any level of snorkeller; you will not want to miss this spot!
Teeming with sea-life, you can find turtles, cuttlefish, squid, fish, crayfish, and young black tip and white tip reef sharks. The best time to snorkel is from mid-morning to lunch-time when the sun is at its highest. The clarity of the water is incredible, and the coral and sea life are at their most vibrant in the direct sunlight.
Migis is outside of the sanctuary zone, so you’re able to catch your own fish. We love beach fishing and spearfishing: there is something so wholesome and humbling about catching your own dinner!
Another amazing spot to explore is Gnaraloo Bay, inside the sanctuary zone; an untouched sea paradise!
2. Surfing - Tombstones or Turtles
There are many amazing surf breaks along the Qobba station coastline; the waves are one of the biggest attractions for most of the campers. Located roughly 1km from the camp, Tombstones is one of the longest left-hand reef breaks we have in WA.
The wave at Tombstone can vary from perfect for beginners to incredibly scary when the swell is large. While it is super fun when the swell is small, professional big wave surfers fly in from around the world to chase the swell when it’s big! This wave is by far one of my favourite waves to surf in the world. The water is warm, the wave is perfect.
When the swell gets too small for Tombstones, you can adventure around back south (by about 30 minutes!) to a surf break called Turtles. Here is a more barrel-like left-hander that is a faster wave than Tombstones. The reef is sharp in both spots so I always wear some sort of wetsuit over bikinis (of course I’m wearing this one!)
There is a huge dune in front of Turtles which makes for the perfect lookout spot across the bay and all the way to Red Bluff, one of the most famous headlands in WA. Have a glass of wine and cheese and watch the surf roll in with the sunset; just make sure to “keep the scene clean”!
3. Camping - Three Mile Camp
Three Mile Camp is perfect for families! There are heaps of campsites, but I recommend camping close to the surf side or by the lagoon. There are cubicle toilets and showers in set spots around the campsite, and access to hot bore water showers at night: this makes the end to the day so much nicer! The shower/toilet blocks get cleaned daily so they are always kept in pristine condition.
There is a little shop above the camp which stocks limited items; think chocolate, chips, water, firewood, and icecreams. I suggest stocking up on your meats and food in Carnarvon, the closest town to Gnaraloo. While you're there, try a Bumbaks mango smoothie: they are so good!
We have an RV5 Plus deluxe tent, which is perfect for camping and super easy to set up. Our yearly getaway includes setting up camp in this paradise for a delicious two weeks. It is the best feeling to enjoy a glass of wine by the fire after a full day of activities in the saltwater. The lack of reception is a blessing in disguise: it is the best place to unwind and spend one-on-one time with loved ones, immersed in nature.

Arguably Perth’s most popular beach, Cottesloe Beach offers a consistent surf break all throughout the year. The fairly exposed beach and groyne break experiences the best swell from the southwest direction, and is a reliable beach for beginners. This beach is a social hub and can get quite busy, so we recommend braving the cold and getting into the water early if you’re heading out on the weekend.
We love heading to the new local on the street, Ol’ Bouy, for our post-surf coffee fix or North Street Bakery for a delicious cinnamon scroll.

2. ROTTNEST: Strickland Bay
Strickland Bay is the most consistent exposed break on Rottnest Island. This reef break is located on the south side of the island, and experiences its best swell from the south-south west direction, during winter. Strickland Bay offers a short right break and a long left break over a coral floor, and is more suited to a more experienced surfer, on the lookout for some heavier waves.
Once you’re finished with your surf session, we recommend making the short trip across the neck of the island to the secluded Lady Edeline Beach. Here, you’ll be able to soak up the sun and enjoy the super protected and hidden bay.
3. SOUTH WEST: Contos Beach
Contos Beach is located in the Margaret River area. This beach offers a super clean, exposed reef break that is reliable all year round. This left break is highly consistent, and a great summer break for experienced surfers.
The Cape to Cape track runs alongside Contos Beach, and the hike to Bob’s Hollow from Contos Beach is known for being one of the most scenic sections of the entire track! If you head out on the track, keep an eye out for wildlife, especially in the early mornings and in the evenings.
Where is your favourite surf spot in Western Australia? We want to hear all about it!
You’ve heading out to brave the cold water; and you know that it will feel so good when you’re warming up with a coffee afterwards. There’s truly nothing like getting into the fresh ocean air and plunging into cold water to help beat the winter blues here in the Southern Hemisphere!
Here are our top post swim necessities, to keep you cosy after a winter swim.
]]>Here are our top post swim necessities, to keep you cosy after a winter swim.
1. A Cosy Towel
An obvious one, absolutely not to be forgotten! A warm and absorbent towel will be the perfect thing to wrap yourself up in, as soon as you’re out of the water. Make sure that you choose a towel that is generously large and quick drying. Our Luxe Beach Towel is perfect for the job: not only is it super quick drying and light to carry, but looks great too!
An added tip: if you have medium to long hair, try to squeeze as much water out of it as possible, and then pop it up in a claw clip or with a hair tie. Icy water dripping down your back is not a vibe!
2. Warm Clothes
It can feel a bit bothersome, but getting changed into warm clothes will make such a difference to your post-swim adventures. Find a changing room or risk it all behind the aforementioned towel… but absolutely make your way into something thick and warm!
We’re currently loving the matching tracksuit vibe, so that you’re toasty and cute hitting up your favourite cafe. Check out our favourites, here and use code ELIZA to save an extra 10% at checkout!
3. Coffee (and a keep cup)
Warming you up from the inside out, coffee (or a chai, or a hot chocolate: your go-to warm drink!) is the ultimate treat after a brisk winter swim! Bring along your keep cup, or choose to dine in, and enjoy soaking up the sun and good vibes.
The best thing about coastal coffee shops is that they are often frequented by cute dogs!
4. Aftercare
Once you’re home, it’s critical that you take the time to care for your wetsuit, swimsuit and towel. There is absolutely nothing worse than finding your wet beach stuff in your car a few days later!
Caring for your wetsuit and washing it after each use will ensure the longevity of your wetsuit and will keep it fresh for your next ocean adventure. For optimal aftercare, we recommend soaking your wetsuit in fresh and cold water in a sink for at least five minutes, before laying it out to dry in the shade.
Rinse your swimsuit with fresh water after wearing it and hang it to dry in the shade, and hang up your towel between uses to let it dry completely.
What are your winter swim essentials? Do you have any hot tips, or any recommendations that we should add to our list? We’d love to hear from you!
]]>So you’re headed to your favourite beach to enjoy the sun, check out the reef and catch sight of your local nemos. (If you’re looking for our favourite snorkelling spots around Perth, check out our top 3 spots here!)
But what are your snorkelling essentials? We’ve compiled a list of our Snorkelling Beach Checklist, so that you’re ready for your next adventure! We know you’ll bring your snorkel set, but here are our other recommendations!
]]>But what are your snorkelling essentials? We’ve compiled a list of our Snorkelling Beach Checklist, so that you’re ready for your next adventure! We know you’ll bring your snorkel set, but here are our other recommendations:
There is nothing like a blistering sunburn across your back to ruin the post-snorkel vibes! Protect your back and shoulders from the sun with a long sleeve wetsuit - ours are perfect for a sunny day out in the water! At GRNSTR, our wetsuits are made from a premium, buttery soft neoprene that is 2mm thick and that offers excellent sun protection.
See point #1 for our thoughts on sunburn - it’s never fun. Make sure to use a waterproof sunscreen and bring it along with you so that you can reapply every two hours. Sunscreen is certainly something you never regret and don’t forget to slip, slop, slap!
Snorkelling is hard work: make sure you bring along your favourite towel so that you can warm up and relax after your swim! We love our Luxe Beach Towel and think it’s perfect for the job: the ombre panels and tassel hem details will elevate your post-swim look, while it’s quick drying design will keep you warm and cosy.
Ok, this one may have caught you off-guard. However, baby shampoo is the perfect way to keep your goggles fog-free! No more spitting required: merely squeeze a small bead of baby shampoo onto your finger, spread it across the inside of your snorkel goggle lenses while they’re dry, then dunk your goggles into the water to rinse them lightly. We like baby shampoo best, because it’s less irritating for sensitive eyes!
You’re heading to the beach to get your snorkel fix: not to get your hair stuck in your goggles. If you have medium to long hair, tying your hair up before putting on your goggles will keep you distraction free while in the water, and will help your goggles to stay in place.
What are your snorkel essentials? Do you have any hot tips, or any recommendations that we should add to our list? We’d love to hear from you!

Mettams Pool is an easily accessible reef, with a huge variety of fish and mollusks that are able to be seen just a few steps from the shore. As a result of its beauty, proximity to Perth and its accessibility, Mettams Pool is very popular. We recommend that you get your snorkelling adventure started early in the morning, to be able to enjoy it on your own!
When snorkeling, it is critical that you keep sun protection as a priority to avoid excessive UV damage to the skin. Our wetsuits offer excellent protection from the elements for when you’re out in the water, exploring Mettams Pool. Keep your arms and back protected from the sun with our 2mm neoprene that is 20% lighter than conventional neoprene!
2. ROTTNEST: Longreach Bay (East)
Just next door to the tourist hotspot snorkeling bay known as “The Basin”, you can find the less-known hidden gem: Longreach Bay. The eastern side of Longreach Bay sports very similar conditions, flora and fauna as the Basin, without the crowds. A charming combination of sea grass and rock reef fosters the perfect habitat for a wide variety of fish, mollusks and crustaceans.
The bay looks out to the North and is thus the perfect sheltered snorkelling location, as it is well protected from the often strong south westerly wind, known locally as the “Freo Doctor”.
Close to the town center of Rottnest, Longreach bay is less than a 2km walk from the ferry and thus is the perfect spot for a day trip, and a secluded snorkeling adventure.
3. SOUTH WEST: The Aquarium
Living up to its very promising name, the Aquarium is a sheltered lagoon nestled neatly between Canal Rocks and Smiths Beach. This locally loved snorkeling spot is well-protected from the waves and wind thanks to the expansive granite outcrops that surround it. Still and cool water gleams over many rock pools making up this lagoon, and the reef ranges in depth from 1 - 3 meters.
A 1.3km trail (in fact, this trail is part of the renowned Cape to Cape track!) leads you to this hidden gem, from a gravel lookout that is found just before the descent into Canal Rocks.
We recommend that you swing by Canal Rocks as well, while you’re in the area: it is the perfect spot to enjoy the sunset!

Wetsuits are made out of neoprene, an insulating fabric that is highly water resistant. At GRNSTR, we have designed our wetsuits with a premium, buttery soft neoprene that is 2mm thick. This neoprene is one of the few on the market that is not petroleum based. In addition to this, it is 20% lighter than conventional neoprene, and thus you get all of the benefits of neoprene with a lighter, more comfortable feel.
It is critical that you choose a wetsuit that fits you correctly, because wearing a wetsuit that is too loose can cause the water to flush through your wetsuit. This dispels the warm insulating layer and negates the benefits of wearing a wetsuit. At GRNSTR, our sizing makes it easier and more accessible to find a wetsuit that fits! Starting with your weight and your chest size, check our sizing guide to find your correct size.
In addition to keeping you warm, our wetsuits offer UV protection so you can rest easy, knowing that your back, shoulders, arms and chest are well protected from the sun’s rays.
Our wetsuits are designed to keep you comfortable, warm and protected from the sun while you’re enjoying your time out in the water; whether you be swimming, snorkelling, diving, surfing, stand up paddle boarding or having a day out on a boat!

The relationship that I have with my sister is second to none; she is my best friend and is the source of endless support, confidence and laughter in my life. I named my brand GRNSTR because I want to bring that same strength and sisterhood to my customers.
I want my customers to feel heard and listened to. Welcomed and confident. GRNSTR stands to be a voice of support and inclusion within the surfing industry; the sister you didn’t have, but always needed.

While I adore surfing, I have always dreamed of paving the way for change within the industry. I’ve seen and felt the desperate need for inclusivity within this space; and the lack of it has always broken my heart.
While growing up, the “surfer girl” aesthetic felt strictly policed; if you weren’t blonde and petite you were invisible to the major brands and their sponsorship opportunities. For the better part of a decade, the models used for surfing campaigns fit a very specific casting call. At the mere age of sixteen I struggled to squeeze into bikini tops that did not fit, in an attempt to engage with the major brands. I could only imagine how other girls, more voluptuous than me, might be feeling.
Everything changed for me when COVID struck, and I was no longer able to travel and compete. I was suddenly afforded with something I’d never had before: the time and space to focus on my dream. Thus GRNSTR was born: the innovative and unapologetic brand that breaks the stereotypical image of a surfer girl.
Almost immediately, I came up against my first hurdle: size templates. It blew my mind to realise that within an industry that had been around for decades, I was the first to be manufacturing a wetsuit in a women’s size 18. While commercial mens wetsuits catered for sizes up to 4XL, women’s wetsuits stopped at size XL. At the age of twenty-two, I had to create my own sizing guide for sizes that should have been standard. This reaffirmed to me the important role that GRNSTR was going to play in the industry.
Currently, GRNSTR leads the global surf industry with our inclusive sizing, and my goal is to continue to expand this further by developing wetsuits up to size 24. I know that this will take many samples, try-ons and adjustments before we get the perfect dimensions for each new size, but I am so thrilled and proud to be actively making surfing more accessible and inclusive. I am working with local Perth women who are helping me with the sizing, fit, cut and feel of these extended sizes, and it is such exciting and rewarding work.
I am so thankful for the support we have received so far, and I can’t wait to continue building upon what we’ve already accomplished. The best is yet to come, and I cannot wait to share this journey with you!
